How do I obtain a Connecticut real estate license?
To obtain a Connecticut real estate salesperson’s license, you must complete the following steps:
- Complete a 60-hour real estate Principles and Practices Course. Courses can be found at:
- Community Colleges
- Local Realtor Boards
- Local Real Estate Offices
- Pay the $80 application fee
- Pass the Salesperson exam – Contact PSI for details (800) 211-2754 – PSI Candidate Bulletin
- Pay the $285 initial license fee
To obtain a Connecticut real estate broker’s license, you must have two years’ experience working as a salesperson, and complete the following steps:
- Complete the required Prelicense Education:
- 60 hours Principles and Practices of Real Estate consisting of:
- 15 hours – Real Estate Legal Compliance
- 15 hours – Real Estate Brokerage Principles & Practices
- Two 15-hour Elective Courses
- 60 hours Principles and Practices of Real Estate consisting of:

What are my Connecticut real estate continuing education requirements?
Real estate salesperson and brokers in Connecticut are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education each two-year license cycle. Licensees must complete the required core course for each licensing cycle. For the 2016-2018 licensing cycle the required core course is a fair housing course offered through the Connecticut Fair Housing Department.
How often must I renew my Connecticut real estate license?
Real estate salespersons and brokers in Connecticut must renew their licenses every two years. The deadline to renew for brokers is March 31st of even years; for salespersons is May 31st of even years. The next renewal year is 2020.

Who reports my continuing education to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection?
The Department of Consumer Protection does not require the licensee or the provider to report continuing education completion. You will need to provide proof of course completion to the DCP if audited.
How do I renew my Connecticut real estate license?
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection is now offering license renewal online! All renewal notices are sent approximately 30-45 days prior to the expiration date of your license. If you received a username and password on your renewal notice, you may go to www.elicense.ct.gov to renew.
If you did not receive a username or password on your renewal notice, send an email to dcp.online@ct.gov and include the following:
- Name
- License, permit or registration type
- License, permit or registration number
- Email address
- Which login you are requesting:
- User ID and Password for full access to your account and renewal
- Fast Track Renewal PIN for access to renew only

How much does it cost to renew my Connecticut real estate license?
Connecticut offers a reduced rate to real estate licensees that renew their license early.
- Brokers: $375 in an odd year (early); $383 in an even year
- Salespersons: $285 early renewal (in an odd year); $293 standard renewal (in an even year)
I missed the due date for my Connecticut real estate license renewal, can I still renew?
Yes, you can renew your license within the first 30 days following your renewal date without incurring a late fee. The late fee after 30 days is $28.50 for salespersons and $37.50 for brokers. You cannot engage in business until your license is renewed without subjecting yourself to disciplinary action.
Do I have to complete any continuing education if my Connecticut real estate license is inactive?
No, there are no continuing education requirements if your license is in an inactive status. However, you will be required to complete all continuing education prior to changing your license status to active.
